mommy + me may

I'm so excited (like I might have drooled going through these photos) to share this mommy + me post with you! Jenny and her son Julian are fantastically photogenic. I just short of begged guest photographer Madeline to use these photos, because I knew they'd be perfect for this post. Jenny and Julian are obviously stylish, but you can definitely sense the love, Madeline captures them beautifully. Prepare to be inspired :)

what surprised you most about being a mom?

Before I had Julian I didn't often gravitate to children, so I think what surprised me the most was unearthing my motherhood. It took a little while to feel comfortable with that, but I found my high pitch baby talk voice, and I sing ridiculous songs really loud, and generally do indecorous things that parents do. And I love it.

what is the hardest part of motherhood?

There have been a lot of challenging elements, but underneath all of those things was a chasm of sleep deprivation. I don't know if it has been the hardest thing, but it made every other challenge that much more difficult.

what has been your greatest joy so far?

Seeing this little cherub wake up each morning like the world just began. It is redemptive, and healing. He makes me feel old and young all at once. It grounds me to witness his life unfold.

what is your favorite style tip?

I've always been a creature of habit, I have items (like the grey wool sweater in these photos) that I have worn for years. When I find a piece I love I follow two rules 1: wear it again, even if everybody just saw you wear it yesterday. It is practical, nobody (should) care, and you feel good in clothes you love.2. Think about what you love most about your favorite items in your closet and use those elements as a guide for future purchases.
